Tony hawk pro skater 5 is a bust

Tony hawk's pro skater was a amazing series of games with gameplay tried to be recreated so many times with so many failures, from the self aware bugs to the many challenges with excellent level design not seen from any Modern skateboarding games.

Tony hawk pro skater 5 takes all those older levels combines them in a odd combination to try to make "new levels" some even based off game boy color & gba versions of levels then renamed. Example rooftops is based off gba version of the same name mixed with ps1 and some other gba level of thps2. Bunker is warehouse & hanger combined in a mess.

The gameplay is not quite there either, character select is hidden in customize skater menu. Custom skaters are now over saving pro skaters.

Glitches are everywhere but are not really fun. More screw up flow of normal gameplay and are difficult to recreate.

Music is very limited it is likely you will memorize every song 1/4 the way through the games. Level select requires you to exit completely out then go back in. More loading screens yay....

Create a park is back but all it is is putting objects in the 7 levels, you can download and upload maps though.

School 3 is just school 2 cut in half and modified.

Don't expect to find massive combo lines in every level it's not like neversofts levels at all.

Only slightly better than tony hawk hd and twice the cost with mostly the same game base with no multiplayer.

Also no PC version really? It's a unreal game there is no excuse for lack of PC release

I enjoyed it but the pink elephants in the room are overwhelming, and need to be pointed out, really they are all issues that could easily be fixed.

Making games isn't the same as playing games

I've been making games for many many years, and people in my personal life have been unable to see the difference between making games, and playing games. They fail to see all the hard work it takes to make a game, all the thought process, all the time invested into a single project, and the many challenges it is to not only make a game but make a game even worth playing for maybe a few minuets.

This post's goal is to describe the difficulties of playing and making games, and how to gather research from actually playing games.

When making a game the first thing you want to think of is not always the same, there is no book on how to design a game, I usually do it as I go along, making many different prototypes and then building up the one I like and enjoy the most. But that isn't always the way to go about it. You also might want to take into consideration on what system/platform you are making the games for and whom you are making the games for. If you are making it for yourself well think of the people who are like you and things common to what you like, and build options from there.

If you are making games for a specific target audience research games that already go after that target audience and build from those games, add, and contribute making your own separate creations.

Playing games for research is a good idea for game makers, it doesn't mean you are just playing the games you need to figure out how they did what they did, or come up with a idea of how they did it. Think out these results in a problematic way and figure out each step it takes to make even the most simplistic effects and objects.

When you are just playing a game, sure you are enjoying it, but you are not thinking how to make said game, you are not thinking out logically how they did what they did, only seeing what the game is trying to portray. Making games can be fun, but it isn't for everyone, it is very tedious and very logical, it requires a lot of math as well and if you fail to comprehend programming logic you will never really understand how to fully make a game on your own.

When gathering information from a game, you are looking at every detail, every last detail and it is important to see what other game developers have done.

But when you make a game all throughout the process of making it you will need to test it continuously to problem solve out problems, bugs, errors, and logical flaws. You will need to spend a great amount of time fixing these issues. This is when most people see you playing your own game, so they assume you are just playing a game, not testing a problem or issue, or fixing something.

So please next time you see someone "playing a game" don't assume anything and jump the gun and just assume they are some how lazy slobs. It takes weeks to months to years to make a game, many many many hours of their lives are spent just doing the simplest of tasks for a video game.
