Bleh.... its not bad... but not good...
The Simple:O its own it doesn't stand well, but with knowing who he is what his show is about, it is what my low expectations came in and matched. I have low expectations for all movies now a days so when they do more I am "WOW'D" by it when they do it right, that didn't happened so it was matched. The movie relies too heavily on knowing who AVGN as a character is, and too much on his fans, in which he makes a bunch of assumptions about his fans.
It is like if the thatguywiththeglasses movie had a actual loose plot, and a actual backing of money to blow on it and then spent that money based off popular film locations, with the only reason of filming there is the cost.
The broken down:The movie felt as if it was more or less a EGO booster more than anything else, with pretty much worship from "fans", many of which paid to be in the movie, it actually made them look bad, and even calling the fans as a whole a pack of zombies in a part of the movie because they are pushing him into doing something he doesn't want to do as a character.... This insinuating that he listens to his fans...
It was good that he didn't put the secondary character as Mike, and brought in people who acted quiet well. The actors were good at acting, even James was.
But the problem is the story, I understand it was suppose to be corny humor here and there filled with cliches and references to games, and other movies. That I don't have a problem with, I actually laughed at one or two of them.
The problem lies that the movie expects too much on that everyone likes AVGN's content. When that is far from the truth, and that everyone that watches it is a fan and demands he reviews ET, when not all fans do. The movie also depends on you knowing the AVGN other wise you won't get some of the references he does to his reviews, in most of the scenes.
There is plenty of 4th wall breaking which end up just being terrible, and ruin the attempts of explaining this broken story that really needed a lot more work when it breaks down to a 2 hour long movie.
It rivals movies done by the That guy with the glasses, but charging its fans to even view it not to mention the making of it which a extremely high budget that really doesn't show. Other than the film locations in a few of the scenes in which is only brief and a few seconds. A lot of the movie is done with still images with green screen, and in this one location.
The use of HD camera with image focus effects in every scene of the entire movie was a thing....
This is more or less for the die hard fans of his show, as a movie on its own I wouldn't say it stands well. If you are a AVGN fan you probably have already bought it instead of reading my review, if not it might not be for you since it falls flat on its face as a movie.
The really bad behind:
Several of the people in and involved with the movie already released their opinions, thoughts, and some even "reviewed it" which would not be honest since most of them left out that they were in the movie thus involved with its creation.
Which at that point it isn't a review it is a promotion, there is nothing wrong with it so long as you are honest, and many of them were not honest with the fact that they were directly involved with its creation, such as Doug Walker. In which he acted like he wasn't involved at all, and he even presented a premier of it and still acted like he wasn't involved. But then goes on to try to say he audiencied to be in it but not in it but he was in it.
