The ouya team has been recieving requests from users from core functionality to be patched in since beta launch of their system. One of these core functionalities is to change the background on your ouya system with out installing another launcher or something along those lines. For the most part the Ouya team has been completely ignoring those requests and only focusing on who knows what... After 4 months they did one of their much needed patches that fixed overscan issues, USB storage, and a obviously flawed graphical design in the background causing more confusion about the overscan issues... Within the winter update they put the winter themed background hidden in the data folder, which you do not have access too meaning you must root, the background for the holidays, you where able to replace it. A user on he ouya forums posted how to do it on their forums to tell people they can change it.
Here is the post: http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?8203-changing-background-image/page2&s=9398632a964992de95b450f1faa9c99d
The ouya team instead of keeping that image file in there or allowing the users to view it on their ouya decided that it was a exploit that must be patched out instead of allowing users some control over the system they purchased that claimed to be open, but is filled to the rim with always online DRM, and locking the users down to the point where rooting makes very little difference.
This is abusing the only audience they have, causing people to leave the scene even more so.... This is the last chance I am giving the Ouya team, if they do not fix the problems within a few months I am saying screwya ouya, and canceling any and all projects I have for the system. I will also try to convince others that the Ouya is not worth it since they want to abuse its users so much. All people are asking for is to be able to change the background for their ouya and not be so locked down.... Always online DRM forced on the developers, which often have to create a work around system to not abuse their own users, this abuses the entire community which ouya team seems to be ignoring.
This wouldn't be the first case of problems people are having but ouya team ignored them. When the system was still in beta pretty much everyone noticed that there was a problem with the console if you where to have more than 1 controller connected, massive controller delay and incapablity to connect online. They tried to resolve this hardware issue with software patch that really didn't do anything. This was a hardware problem because the bluetooth & wifi nic interfer with one another, all the beta testers were ignored. So they released a faulty product because they failed to listen to their first market fans....
Online DRM quickly became noticable problem when games like towerfall full version could not be played offline. The developer in light of it tried to tell his fans that it isn't online drm he just forgot to add a cache key. Which basically means the online DRM key that is stored online isn't being saved in game. Meaning anytime someone buys a game on the ouya the developer has to setup a authorization system, and they have to setup a keylock system to lock people out and they must store that online key into a local key that turns off the content DRM from their free to play business model which if the developer does not account for a local key means the game has always online DRM, this includes games like Sonic CD, Sonic 4 e1&e2, Final Fantasy 3, and more more all have always online DRM just to allow you to play your games. This is a major problem with the ouya as it abuses the users and developers forcefully.
